Mangrove Habitat

Thousands of miles of waterways and canals have been cut into Florida's coastal lands, particularly in the southern portion of the state. These artificial channels provide navigable access to intracoastal waterways, estuaries and the ocean, but are relatively shallow in depth.

Most canals have hardened shorelines, which are absent of vegetation and native habitat. Riley Encased Methodology enables the revegetation of non-native environments, such as seawalls, bulkheads, revetments, rip-rap and Gabion baskets. REM establishes critical mangrove habitat for fish, birds, crustaceans and invertebrates as-well-as provides a food source for the endangered manatee.
